He was born on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, and grew up in Midland and Houston, Texas. Bush attended Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1968.

After college, he served in the Texas Air National Guard and worked in the oil and gas industry. He later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.

Bush began his political career in 1978, when he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas. He later served as the Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000, before winning the presidential election in 2000.

As President, Bush faced a number of significant challenges, including the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also implemented significant domestic policies, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the Medicare prescription drug benefit.

After leaving office, Bush has been involved in a number of philanthropic efforts, including the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the George W. Bush Institute. He has also been active in promoting democracy and human rights around the world, particularly in Africa.

The Bush/Cheney ticket won the 2000 election with a majority of the electoral vote but did not win the popular vote. Only four Presidents in history have won the Presidential election without getting a majority of the popular vote.
